I didn’t realize
what was wrong with me
until he gave it a name,
at 4 am in the early morning —
I stirred him awake,
and so a barage of insults and name calling poured out of his mouth easily,
I found myself physically backed into a corner,
babbling like a baby,
‘Yes’ and ‘sorrys’ spilling out of me just to make it stop
Just to make the truths of my flaws stop
the kind of flaws only those you let in close enough know
trusting they won’t use it against you,
for hours,
’till the children wake.
When he pulled me in for an embrace,
I was so grateful.
Thank you, thank you.
It’s over and I love you.
